Paul Evans was born in Pennsylvania in 1931. He studied sculpture, metalwork, silver and gold smithing. In the 1950s he made copper chests and sculpted steel front chests. In 1964 he became the designer at Directional Furniture. He introduced several furniture lines- The Argente series of on off studio pieces, sculpted bronze series and the Cityscape series which was highly popular. His relationship with Directional set a very high standard for creative manufacturing. Evans insisted that every piece was made and finished by hand under his strict supervision. In 1979 he opened a showroom in New York Here he produced full lines of furniture as well as the exclusive museum like pieces that he produced for Directional.
