One simple way to incorporate vintage Christmas decorations into your home is by sprinkling simple touches, like fresh greenery, sparkly ornaments, and special decorations and accessories throughout your home to establish the festive joy.
Invest in a periodic Christmas look by adding some candles, plush cushions, and throw blankets, giving your home that warm cosy feel. Greens, golds and reds throughout the home provide a traditional colour scheme and can be proportioned to your personal taste and style. Adding fragrance into your home is one of the easiest methods to enhance the cosy feeling of your abode.
Some of our favourite holiday candles are from the Rory Dobner collection. Rory Dobner has created beautifully scented, lidded candles in ceramic containers which are hand decorated with his intricate ink illustrations.
The individually illustrated candle lids are decorated with 22 carat gold on the top of the lid and the rim of the candle container. Once you have used the beautifully scented candle the candle container could be reused as a sugar pot, trinket pot, tea/coffee pot or as an ornament. This Alice in Wonderland candle would add such a lovely vintage touch to any Christmas table.
Another tip is to use table accessories from the Arts & Crafts era, such as a Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson cheeseboard. The idea of the mouse carvings came about when Thompson had a commission to repair a church and was carving a huge cornice for a screen. He was chatting to his apprentices and one of them commented that they were ‘as poor as church mice.’
While they were eating lunch, Thompson decided to carve a mouse onto the screen and that sowed the seed for using it as a trademark for his future wares.
