Gordon Russell, born in Cricklewood, London, was a designer, and entrepreneur, and is well known for his beautiful designs and striking imagination.
Holly Johnson of Holly Johnson Antiques is showcasing a range of Russells designs, from stunning antique dining tables to charming oak mirrors in her gorgeous antique showroom in Knutsford, Cheshire.
In the 1920s, Russell and his wife moved to Kingcombe, where he had built a fine Arts and Crafts house and gardens, which became his lifes passion. It was around this time that he became more well known for his designs, showcasing his pieces at the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as winning a gold medal for a cabinet in The Paris Exhibition.
The attention to detail and beautifully thought-out designs are almost a trademark of Russells work, and his passion is clear in each and every piece.
With a stunning mahogany interior and smooth walnut top, this sideboard is a perfect example of the charming pieces that Holly Johnson has acquired, with four drawers centred between two built in cupboards, providing a charming ensemble.
This set features 8 walnut chairs with trellis splats perfectly carved into the backrest, and a dining table to match. Believed to have been made by Birmingham architect Holland W Hobbiss, whose work even included Kings Edwards school, the set is in excellent condition.
Designed by Gordon Russell in 1925, this floor length mirror quite literally reflects the attention to detail that was put into every one of Russells designs. The mirror has a small stitch like pattern gracing the edge of the beautiful floor length frame, complementing the walnut and yew wood materials to create an elegant design.
This set of 8 dining chairs includes two carver chairs and 6 other dining chairs, all with gorgeous staggered vase shaped splats, and made from oak. The chairs also have drop in seats with a lovey antique design.
